Testing & commissioning
The point at which an installation becomes an asset. Everything that was assumed during design gets checked here.
Operations · In short
Testing and commissioning is the process of proving an electrical installation is safe and correct before it is energised, and then energising it. Enersys Engineers carries out pre-commissioning checks, insulation resistance and high-voltage withstand testing, transformer and cable testing, earth resistance measurement, protection secondary injection and relay setting application, functional and interlock verification, charging, and performance guarantee test supervision.
Pre-commissioning checks
- Physical inspection against approved drawings and as-built verification
- Cable schedule verification, megger testing and phasing
- Termination and torque verification
- Earthing continuity and earth resistance measurement
- Clearance verification against statutory limits
- Safety appliance, notice and interlock verification
Equipment testing
Energisation and beyond
- Charging sequence planning and permit coordination with the utility
- First charging, on-load checks and stabilisation
- Load testing, phase sequence and directional check of protection
- Performance guarantee test supervision and evaluation
- Snag list preparation and close-out
- Test report compilation for the inspectorate and the handover pack
- Operator familiarisation and training
Why the settings should come from the same team
A relay setting that is calculated by a consultant, transcribed by a manufacturer and applied by a commissioning contractor passes through three hands. Each is an opportunity for a value to be entered incorrectly, and the error is only found by a fault.
Enersys performs the coordination study, manufactures the panel, applies the settings and tests them. The number in the grading calculation and the number in the relay are traceable to the same source.
Frequently asked
Do you provide testing and commissioning as a standalone service?
Yes — including on installations built by other contractors. Independent testing and commissioning is often specified by an owner precisely so that the party that built the installation is not the only party that has verified it.
What test reports are produced?
A complete pack covering every item tested, with instrument details, calibration references, measured values and the acceptance limit each was assessed against. It is the same pack the electrical inspectorate requires.
What is a performance guarantee test?
A contractual test that demonstrates the installation achieves the output, efficiency or availability the supplier guaranteed. It is the point at which liquidated damages or acceptance is determined, so it is witnessed and evaluated rather than simply reported.

These are the adjacent scopes clients most often need alongside it.
O&M services
Commissioning is the beginning of the asset’s life, not the end of the project. Availability is what pays for it.

The approval that stands between a completed installation and a live one. It is refused for detail, not for principle.

The panel and the grading study come from the same team, so the settings that were calculated are the settings that get applied.

Most owners do not carry the engineering headcount a capital project needs for eighteen months. This is that team, for exactly as long as the project runs.
