Electrical inspectorate (CEIG) approval
The approval that stands between a completed installation and a live one. It is refused for detail, not for principle.
Approvals · In short
Electrical inspectorate approval — commonly called CEIG approval, from the Chief Electrical Inspector to Government — is the statutory safety clearance required before an HT electrical installation can be energised in India. In Odisha it is granted by the Chief Electrical Inspector to Government, Odisha, and no HT or EHV installation in the state is charged without it. It covers drawing approval, verification that the installation complies with the Central Electricity Authority safety regulations, earthing and clearance checks, and a physical inspection. Enersys Engineers prepares the submission, corrects the installation against the requirements, and attends the inspection.
What the inspectorate examines
- Approved single-line diagram and layout drawings matching the installation as built
- Electrical clearances — phase-to-phase, phase-to-earth, and safety working clearances
- Earthing system — grid design, conductor sizing, resistance measurement, and equipment bonding
- Protection scheme and relay settings, with the coordination basis
- Cable sizing, routing, segregation and terminations
- Danger notices, warning boards, shock treatment charts and safety appliances
- Fire fighting provision and access
- Test reports — insulation resistance, earth resistance, high-voltage withstand, protection and functional tests
Why applications get returned
Refusals are almost never about the engineering concept. They are about the record of it.
- Drawings that no longer match the installation after site changes
- Earth resistance values recorded but not against the required limit
- Missing or unsigned test reports for part of the installation
- Clearances short at one location in an otherwise compliant layout
- Relay settings applied at site that do not match the submitted coordination study
- Safety appliances and statutory notices not yet in place at the time of inspection
What we do
- Prepare the application and the drawing set in the format the inspectorate requires
- Pre-inspection walk-down against the checklist, with defects listed and closed before the visit
- Compile and verify the full test report pack
- Attend the inspection with the engineers who designed and built the installation
- Respond to observations and complete the compliance actions
- Obtain and hand over the energisation permission
Frequently asked
What does CEIG stand for?
Chief Electrical Inspector to Government — the state authority responsible for enforcing electrical safety regulations. Approval from this office is required before an HT installation may be energised.
Is CEIG approval needed for a solar plant?
Yes, where the installation includes HT equipment — inverters feeding an HT transformer, an HT switchyard or an evacuation line all bring the plant within scope.
Can Enersys obtain approval for an installation built by another contractor?
Yes. We begin with a compliance gap review, because a stalled application usually reflects documentation or minor installation gaps rather than a fundamental defect.

Statutory approvals & liaisoning
Approvals do not delay projects. Approvals started late delay projects. We run them alongside construction, not after it.
