PMCC — Power & Motor Control Centre panels
One lineup that both feeds and controls the plant. Draw-out construction is what lets you change a starter without shutting the section down.
Manufacturing · In short
A Power and Motor Control Centre (PMCC) combines the power distribution function of a PCC with motor starter modules in a single lineup, so that plant drives are both fed and controlled from one board. Enersys Engineers manufactures PMCC panels with direct-on-line, star-delta, soft-start and variable frequency drive feeders in fixed, draw-out or fully withdrawable construction, for DRI, sponge iron, steel, cement and captive power plant applications.
Starter types we build
Construction options
- Fixed modules — lowest cost, where downtime for maintenance is acceptable
- Draw-out modules — a starter can be withdrawn and replaced without de-energising the section, which is what plants with high availability requirements specify
- Fully withdrawable with automatic shutters and safety interlocks
- Compartmentalised construction with segregated busbar, functional unit and cable alley
- Intelligent MCC with motor protection relays on a fieldbus to the plant DCS or SCADA
What we get right on drive-heavy plants
Sponge iron, DRI and cement plants run dozens of motors on one lineup, many of them on drives. Two problems follow, and both are designed out at the panel stage.
- Motor starting and voltage dip — the starting study confirms the network can restart the plant without collapsing the bus
- Harmonic distortion from the drive population — assessed in the harmonic study and mitigated with reactors or filters rather than discovered after commissioning
- Cable derating for grouping and ambient in congested cable alleys
- Interlocking logic that reflects the actual process sequence, not a generic template
Frequently asked
When is a PMCC preferred over separate PCC and MCC boards?
Where the drive population is large enough to justify a combined lineup and where space is at a premium. Separate boards remain preferable where the motor loads are remote from the incoming distribution, since long motor cables carry their own cost and volt-drop penalty.
Do you supply intelligent MCC with fieldbus communication?
Yes. Motor protection relays can be networked to the plant DCS or SCADA over standard industrial protocols, giving per-feeder current, trip cause and diagnostics rather than just a trip indication.
Is the harmonic study included?
It is part of our system studies scope and we recommend it wherever the drive population is significant. Ordering a drive-heavy PMCC without one is how plants end up retrofitting filters.

The board everything else hangs off. Its short-circuit withstand is the number that matters, not its rated current.
